Social and emotional delays refers to conditions in which children have not reached expected milestones for their age. These milestones include social aspects of smiling, playing, and interacting with others as well as emotional necessities of expressing oneself and developing strong self-esteem.
Here are a few signs of social and emotional delays:
- Lack of smiling and other facial expressions
- No response to hearing their own name or seeing their reflection
- Doesn’t express any preference for those they feel safe around
