Language development consists of both receptive and expressive language skills. Receptive language skills include understanding and comprehending what others say, while receptive language skills include communicating thoughts, wants, and needs.
Toddlers who demonstrate late language emergence may demonstrate the inability to put words together to make a short sentence and may not be understood by other peers and adults.
Children within the 3-5 age range that have difficulty responding, understanding, and expressing language may benefit from additional support.
